RUGIPO: For The First Time, AID Department Conducts Own Departmental Election

For the first time in history, the department of Art and Industrial Design of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, Ondo State (RUGIPO) conducted own departmental election to elect executives for 2017/2018 Academic Session few hours ago.

The electoral process commenced with the presentation of manifestoes by aspirants, before the commencement of the election fully at the department's lecture hall.

While declaring the result, the Chairman of AIDISEC, Ayomide Olugbona declared Ifeanyi Ogbodo as president with 55 voted (unopposed).

Also, Oluwanifemi Akinola as vice president with 54 votes (unopposed), Sandra Ossai as General Secretary with 49 votes (unopposed), Blessing Oripenaye as Assistant General Secretary with 54 votes (unopposed), Omowunmi Aridiogo as Welfare Director with 54 votes (unopposed), Dennis Awolope as Treasurer with 53 votes (unopposed), Oluwapelumi Rotimi as Financial Secretary with 53 votes (unopposed), Olayinka Oyeyemi as Social Director with 47 votes (unopposed), Toluwalase Akingboye as Sport Director with 54 votes (unopposed) and Gbenga Ogunsakin who emerged as Public Relations Officer with 39 votes, defeating Emmanuel Makinde who had just eleven votes.

The Head of Department, Mr T.D Kayode while addressing the students, urged the elected executives to set legacy thats worthy of emulation by others and persuaded students to show interest in politics irrespective of position.

He also appreciated the electoral body and officiating lecturers for ensuring serenity for the success of the election.

Also Speaking, the Faculty Officer, Mrs Lydia Sasere urged students to be show enthusiasm towards their study and to be of good conduct on campus.

Responding, Ogbodo expressed his satisfaction on the result as he considered the election to be hitch-free and he was also thankful to God for it success.

He further advised his colleagues to impact positive changes in the department and faculty.

A student of the department while speaking with RUGIPO Press Council, Ibrahim Yekin attested that, the election was free and fair.

He further urged the executives elected never to allow their leadership to make them forget their primary objective on campus.
